What actually is Macumba? This is probably the single hardest question you could ask, because it is basically impossible to describe what Macumba really is to someone who is not connected to
Macumba him/herself. This is also made even harder by the fact that secrets of Macumba may not be divulged to anyone standing outside of Macumba.
To try and describe it in simple words, Macumba is everywhere, it is in every thing and every living being. Macumba is the possibility to change everything, and to make the impossible become
reality. Macumba is life, and it is death. Macumba is good, and it is evil.
Also, everybody can describe for him/herself what Macumba is to him/her. To many people, it is their religion. To some people, it is a tool they use for evil, or for good. To others, it is simply
a miracle. To some people, it is something they use to improve their own lives in many aspects. And to some people it is something they want nothing to do with out of fear.
As I said, it is impossible to describe in words what Macumba is to someone who doesn't just know it him/herself through the learning and practice of Macumba. If you want to get some firsthand
experience of Macumba for yourself, you could travel to Brazil, particularly the poor districts, where real Macumba is being practiced the most. While this may not explain to you what Macumba
actually is, you would at least be able to define what it is to yourself after you have seen some real life examples of it.
While you now still may not know exactly what Macumba actually is, I can tell you what Macumba is not, because that is much easier to explain. Everywhere you look, there are examples of so-called
"Macumba" that are actually not related to real Macumba in any way.
Macumba is not one of the many African or Brazilian religions that you can find described on the internet, and it is not what is described on various other websites, such as Wikipedia.
Macumba is not any website that sells so-called "Macumba items" which in reality are only cheap fakes that have nothing to do with Macumba. Below you can see a few examples of fake "Macumba candles"
which can be found in various stores.
Macumba is not associated with animal abuse, such as putting various objects into the mouth of a frog and then sewing it shut in order to achieve "Macumba" effects.
Macumba has nothing to do with faith, it is not a religion, it is not related to gods, and it is not some kind of worship.
Macumba did not originate from Africa or Brazil, as some other sources would make you believe. Macumba has always been and always will be. While it is mostly practiced in South America, this is
not where Macumba really comes from.
You should also read the answer to this question because it explains how the religions that are said to be Macumba came to be.
